New Hampshire Road Trip: August 1 - 8
No sooner was I back from Pennsylvania then I headed off again with a good friend of mine - Sandi, her daughter Kelly and my daughter Caitlin. That's right . . . the girls on a road trip to Lincoln, NH in the White Mountain Region. Beautiful countryside and gorgeous weather. We stayed at a five-star timeshare (Sandi owns one and swapped for this one!) and just had a blast. Lots of shopping (no tax) and spelunking. Sandi got stuck in a cave called the lemon squeezer. I overcame my fear of tight squeezes myself and crawled on hands and knees through a warren of caves. We also had the most amazing eight-mile bicycle ride (all down hill). Now that's my kind of biking. We were also able to work out at a Curves facility in Meredith, NH. For those of you who don't know what Curves is check out their website at www.curves.com. I joined two years ago and lost over 35 lbs and 30 inches. I also credit Curves (or more specifically getting in shape and eating right through the Curves diet) with saving me from my daily allergy & occasional asthma medication.
Beaching it in Kincardine: August 11 - 13
Well here it is September and Suzanne and I capped off the summer at my End of Summer Soiree. Good friends & neighbours, good food & lots of good wine. What more could you ask for . . . Couldn't get anyone into the hot-tub. Maybe next year!
I don't do a lot of movie watching in the summer. Too busy gardening, hot-tubbing (an incredible yard sale find of my husband's), beaching etc. But I did watch two movies that I think are worth mentioning. The first was The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorcese. Now I am not a big Leo fan. However, after watching The Aviator I gained a whole new respect for him. I think he did an excellent job of portraying Howard Hughes in all his eccentricities. Equally fascinating were the added features that come with the DVD. I found out all kinds of interesting facts about the life of Howard Hughes and all of his amazing inventions. Do you realize he was one of the pioneers of commercial aviation?
The other movie was Hotel Rwanda starring Don Cheadle, in the true-life story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager who housed over a thousand Tutsis refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda. An absolutely horrifying and shocking account of the atrocities that took place and the bravery of one man. Well worth watching.
