December is always a busy time of the year for most people. I started it out with two Annual General Meetings (CDF & CAIC) and then kicked into festive season mode! So lets get to the Ho! Ho! Ho!
December 2: Perfect Pie at the Alumnae Theatre
I manned the box office for the last performance of Perfect Pie by Judith Thompson at the Alumnae Theatre ( www.alumnaetheatre.com). Patsy (played by Andy Fraser and Alumnae Theatre member) and Francesca (played by Heidi Weeks) share a slice of pie and relive a painful childhood memory that had tragic consequences for both. I found the play quite moving and shared a few sniffles with fellow Alumnae member Fiona.
December 7: Centre 55 Pub Crawl - it's for the children, really!
This was my fourth year pub crawling for Community Centre 55 (website: www.centre55.com) and this time I brought along my Curves workout pals (Dianne, Edna & Sandi) along with my Blue Meanie bud Mary and my web partner in crime Suzanne. We had a blast being driven by the Variety Village bus to the participating pubs. Once again I was victorious in the Trivia challenges & raffles and danced up a storm to Karaoke Trish and her back-up gals Sandi & Diane. Can't wait for next year!
December 11: Happy Birthday Suzanne
Gal pals Dana, Dianne, Brenda D., Brenda S. and I helped Suzanne celebrate her birthday with Chinese take out and lots of laughs. On the must have gift list - a pop-up Kama Sutra book & mannequin legs!
December 12: Cookie Exchange at Curves
I know. I know. what does exchanging cookies have to do with exercising? Well, it is an excuse to get together and of course after all that cookie sampling exercise sure comes in handy Sandy invited the Curves gals to her beautiful home for a potluck lunch and of course the cookie exchange. I stuck with my tried and true Church Windows and Chocolate Butterscotch Almond Crunch (see recipe page).
December 12: Dreamgirls Premiere
I won tickets through my Mirvish Theatre subscription to the premiere of Dreamgirls at the Isabel Bader Theatre located on the University of Toronto campus. I really enjoyed the show and of course now there is all kinds of Oscar buzz with the nominations of Jennifer Hudson (former American Idol Top Ten) and Eddie Murphy. I really thought that Beyonce Knowles performance although good was overshadowed by the powerful voice of Jennifer.
December 24 - 25: Christmas in Kincardine
The Lemieux family had a wonderful time in Kincardine celebrating Christmas with Mum, Jerry, Auntie Marie, my nieces Vann & Jenna, Jennas son Dylan and Vanns husband Bob. Santa was really good to us all.
December 31: Happy New Year!
Joe and I had plans to celebrate New Year's Eve on top of the CN Tower however the weather was not co-operative so we decided to stay home. That didn't last as we were invited to not one, but two neighbourhood house parties. We managed to spread some cheer with Ingrid, Dan & company and the on to Suzanne's for a quick tot and then back to chez Lemieux to ring in the New Year with my sweetie! Here's to good times in 2007! The year of the pig!
January 11th: Art show opening at Type Books
Went to the opening of a mixed media art show at Type Books (Queen West near Trinity-Bellwood Park) to see the work of a colleague & friend Cathy Lang. She participates in a womens collective called The Second Tuesday Art Collective. Opening night was packed to the rafters, which made it a little tough to see the artwork on display but there were some really interesting pieces.
January 18th: Orpheus Descending at the Royal Alex
Wow what an incredible story and the staging & lighting were fantastic. Joe and I truly enjoyed this Tennessee Williams play that uses the myth of Orpheus to tell the age old tale of good versus evil. Valentine Xavier strolls into town with his guitar in tow and the women of the town are captivated by him. The men however do not take kindly to him and he pays a steep price.
