Kincardine Scottish Festival: July 1 - July 4
The long weekend in July found me in my hometown of Kincardine, Ontario at the annual Scottish Festival. Kincardine is a beautiful little town on Lake Huron where as the town motto goes You're a stranger only once! I think Kincardine has the most beautiful sunsets in the world. But then I guess I am a little biased.
Pennsylvania Tripping: July 19 - 21
Then I did the unheard of! I rode on the back of my husband's Suzuki Katana 600 for a three-day motorcycle trip. Now as far as bikes go or should I say seats on bikes - the Kat has a pretty comfortable one. But after 680 kilometers on the first day (we took the scenic route) to our final destination of Williamsport, Pennsylvania . . . Well let's just say I was ready to get off! That being said the ride down was spectacular. We drove over the Peace Bridge at Buffalo and headed south to Jamestown, New York. Which I found out (by the way) is the birthplace of Lucille Ball. We then drove south into Pennsylvania to Highway 666 - the Devil's Route. What a beautiful road for touring. Lots of curves, hills and a meandering river to our right. Fantastic! But I must admit a little eerie. As we drove along the road got narrower and we didn't see another soul until we finally came out the other side. There are some excellent roads around the Williamsport area. I recommend taking Route 554 into the Amish country. You head south out of Williamsport and climb a mountain and roll on down the other side into beautiful Amish farm country. Another excellent ride was the rode from Shamokin to Pine Grove (Route 125). I felt like I was on a roller coaster.
The trip home was pretty quick. We zipped up from Williamsport, PA to Rochester, NY and caught The Cat across Lake Ontario and arrived at Cherry Street in Toronto, ON. A short 10-minute drive from our home. The ferry ride was very relaxing but quite expensive. It cost over $100 US for two adults and the motorcycle for a 2 hour ride. I must admit though that my butt thanked me!
