And now for the further adventures of Valerie & company!

September 1 - 4 - Labour Day Long Weekend

Most people spend the Labour Day Weekend barbecuing, catching a few rays, lying on a beach (if they're lucky), but what did I do? Joe, Caitlin and I spent the weekend renovating our living room and giving the downstairs family room and Caitlin's bedroom doors a fresh coat of paint! Why? Well, we got the crazy idea that it was time to sell. We had a great house in mind, but what would it take to sell our house? We had a realtor give us an appraisal and thought yup, its time to move. We then went crazy all weekend stripping wallpaper, mudding (the holes made when the wallpaper pulled the wall off!), putting up trim (Joe is great at big projects but not the finishing touches like trim & baseboards) and then painting the walls & ceiling. The livingroom had never looked so, well, so elegant. Quite a departure from the southwest flavour it had previously sported. Anyway, we were ready for realtor number 2.

September 5 - Realtor No. 2

Well. after working our butts off we were brought up short by the assessment of our house! Not that it was a bad thing but just not enough to make the move to a new place viable for us. Oh well, hopes dashed, but I have trim in the living room! So it wasn't a complete wash. Now if I could just get my new countertops in the kitchen and get the backsplash finished.

September 9 - Herongate Barn Dinner Theatre

My dear college friend Marc Siversky invited us to the Herongate for dinner & a show. Marc is very involved in community theatre and in this particular show he provided lighting direction and set decoration, as well as performing on the drums during the show. Multi-talented and very good! Joe and I had never been out to the Herongate (www.herongate.com) and were amazed at the location (idyllic), the food (excellent) and the entertainment (great amateur and semi-professional actors). Definitely worth checking out.

September 16 - Dinner at Lynne's

Well after an almost three-year hiatus we have reconnected with our dear friend Lynne: first at Joes Not-Quite-50-Yet birthday bash in August and then at a fabulous dinner chez Lynne. So glad weve hooked up again!

September 19 - Curves gals lunch and hot tub party

Well, I had the Curves gang over for a potluck lunch and hot tub. Summer seems to have stretched on and the weather co-operated. Unfortunately Carol and Sandy had to leave early, but Edna, Dianne, Doreen and I had a great gab session in the hot tub. I think this will become an annual event.

September 23 - Fab Five Dinner

Suzanne, Brenda and I (sans Brenda D.) headed over to Diane's for a tasty potluck and gab session. I found a fabulous soup recipe (Butternut Squash) and made homemade bruschetta. (Coming soon to the Recipes Page).

September 29 - October 1 - Fourth Annual Blue Meanie Reunion

Once again Heather hosted our reunion at the Meldrum cottage on Dorcas Bay. Mary, Cathy, Alice and I had every intention of getting up to the cottage early on Friday. However, Cathy (who flew in from California Thursday night) ran into a problem . . . she arrived, but her luggage didn't. That meant we had to wait for a 3:30 pm flight to arrive with her bag. What to do? Well, we went to the horse races out at Woodbine and even checked out a few one-armed bandits. Then it was a quick stop at the airport and off to Tobermory. The weather wasn't as cooperative as last year but we managed to tour the shops, gab, play Twister, and - oh yes mustn't forget - Tequila! All in all fun was had by all. Can't wait until next year!

October 5 - Baby with the Bathwater

Suzanne & I went to see Baby with the Bathwater at the Alumnae Theatre (www.alumnaetheatre.com) A fairly quirky production with a few good laughs.

October 7 - 9 - Thanksgiving Weekend

Spent Thanksgiving Weekend in Kincardine with Mum and Jerry! We ran into a little problem. Mum's convection oven was broken and her new one hadn't arrived, so we had to cook the turkey at Auntie Marie's. After sorting out how to use Auntie Marie's oven (she hadn't used it in awhile) we managed to get the turkey cooked. Jenna, her son Dylan, and Auntie Marie joined Mum, Jerry, Joe, Nicholas, Caitlin and me for turkey dinner.

October 9 - Happy 24th Anniversary Joe

Joe and I celebrated 24 years of marriage on October 9th. We had a really low-key day as we were traveling back from Kincardine. However, we have great plans afoot for our 25th next year!

October 18th - Happy Birthday to me!

Had a lovely birthday dinner (lovingly prepared by Caitlin) accompanied by a beautiful bouquet of my favourite flowers - gladiolus (supplied by Nicholas) and a lovely card and new kettle from Joe. Now you might be thinking - a kettle? However, I have a little bit of a reputation when it comes to kettles. I have a tendency to get distracted and, well let's just say they melt!!!! I have a new Queen Mary horn kettle to keep me on my toes. An added bonus was a recording of my mother singing Happy Birthday to me. I missed the call as I had an early meeting. Thanks Mum. Love you all!

October 20 - Legends

Took in the cat fight at the Royal Alexander between Joan Collins and Linda Evans starring in Legends (www.mirvish.com) The bling bling was amazing but the energy was lacking in the gals. The most amazing part of the show was the naked man (just gorgeous!) and the brownie-eating sleazy producer. Two stars out of four!
